Therapy & Coaching
Personal growth and development
Every now and then we all go through difficult periods. They come in many forms – stress, emotional upheavals, anxiety or depression, low self-esteem, challenging situations with colleagues, partners or family, or a more general sense of personal dissatisfaction with your life. Whatever the source of your problems it can be frustrating not knowing what to do about them. Research shows that help received from family and friends is sometimes not enough to solve such problems. In these situations, you may benefit from seeing a psychologist who can provide a fresh perspective. The therapeutic approaches I use are theoretically grounded and evidence-based, and include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). I also include elements from existential and psychodynamic psychology.
How does therapy work?
The goal of therapy is to help you better utilize your strengths and resources. We will work together towards concrete solutions to the challenges you face. As part of this process you will develop an improved awareness of your own patterns of thinking, feeling and behaving. You will develop better and more flexible coping skills, and a greater sense of self-reliance and empowerment.
The first session is an assessment session where we go through your current life situation and potential issues, as well as your background. From here on we develop a treatment plan with a set of therapeutic goals, settle on an appropriate approach and then start off the therapeutic process.
What is coaching?
Coaching is not the same as therapy, but rather a type of dialogue where you get help to find out exactly what you would like your life to be like, why you would like it to be this way, what stops you from having it and how to actually achieve what you want. Sometimes we discuss your life as a whole, other times specific areas such as work life. Rather than targeting specific problems, you get help to identify your resources and barriers and to develop a concrete action plan for how to achieve your goals and dreams. The aim of this process is for you to experience greater satisfaction, fulfillment and happiness in your life.
