Therapy & Coaching
Personal growth and development
Every now and then we all go through difficult periods. They come in many forms – stress, emotional upheavals, anxiety or depression, low self-esteem, challenging situations with colleagues, partners or family, or a more general sense of personal dissatisfaction with your life. Whatever the source of your problems it can be frustrating not knowing what to do about them. Sometimes the help received from family and friends is not enough, and in these situations you may benefit from seeing a psychologist who can provide a fresh perspective. The therapeutic approaches I use are theoretically grounded and evidence-based, and include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). I also include elements from existential and psychodynamic psychology.
How does therapy work?
The goal of therapy is to help you better utilize your strengths and resources. We will work together towards concrete solutions to the challenges you face. As part of this process you will develop an improved awareness of your own patterns of thinking, feeling and behaving. You will develop better and more flexible coping skills, and a greater sense of self-reliance and empowerment.
The first session is an assessment session where we go through your current life situation and potential issues, as well as your background. From here on we create a plan with a set of therapeutic goals, settle on an appropriate approach, and then start off the therapeutic process.
I also offer therapy and coaching sessions online via Skype. Online therapy is an easy way to access psychological services from the comfort of your own home. Whether due to location issues, physical immobility, difficulties getting out of your house or frequent travelling, online therapy can be a great option. Please contact me for more information about how it works, what you would need to do to get started etc.
What is coaching?
Coaching is not the same as therapy, but rather a type of dialogue where you get help to find out more precisely what you would like your life to be like, why you would like it to be this way, what prevents you from having it and how to actually achieve what you want. Sometimes we discuss your life as a whole, other times specific areas such as work life. Rather than targeting specific problems, we identify your resources and barriers and develop a concrete action plan for how you can better achieve your goals and dreams, with the aim of experiencing greater satisfaction, fulfillment and happiness in your life.
